Introduction: Receptors can be classified into six groups, namely nociceptors, mechanoreceptors, thermoreceptors, photoreceptors, chemoreceptors, and electromagnetic receptors. Sensory neurons pick up the sensory information and convey them to the central nervous system (CNS). The CNS perceives the sensory impulses through a four-step process: stimulation, transduction, transmission, and interpretation.
