Dosage Calculations. In Exercises 21–26, use the data in the accompanying table, which lists the numbers of correct and wrong dosage amounts calculated by physicians. In a research experiment, one group of physicians was given bottles of epinephrine labeled with a concentration of “1 milligram in 1 milliliter solution,” and another group of physicians was given bottles labeled with a ratio of “1 milliliter of a 1:1000 rotation.” The two labels describe the exact same amount, and the physicians were instructed to administer 0.12 milligrams of epinephrine. The results were reported in The New York Times.
Correct Dosage Calculation | Wrong Dosage Calculation | |
Concentration Label (“1 milligram in 1 milliliter solution”) |
11 | 3 |
Ratio Label (“1 milliliter of a 1:1000 solution”) |
2 | 12 |
21 Correct Dosage If one of the physicians is randomly selected, what is the probability of getting one who calculated the dose correctly? Is that probability as high as it should be?

- 2.) Explain why the relative frequency column of a frequency table might not sum to 1.0.arrow_forwardTwenty five right-handed students were asked to turn a knob (using their right hands) that moved an indicator by screw action. There were two identical instruments, one with a right-hand thread (the knob turns clockwise) and the other with a left-hand thread (the knob turns counterclockwise). The data presented below gives the times (in seconds) each subject took to move the indicator a fixed distance: Obs. # R 1 2 13 14 15 6 113 105 130 101 138 118 87 IL Obs. #R 137 18 105 9 133 10 108 11 115 12 170 13 103 14 IL |Obs. # |R 116 145 15 118 75 78 16 103 96 107 17 |111 123 122 184 18 104 135 103 148 19 111 112 | 116 147 120 89 193 107 187 121 178 176 1.
