Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: The molar concentration of sodium ion in sea water and human cytosol and the initial volume of sea water are given. The volume of water that is added to make the concentration of sea water equal to that of the human cytosol is to be calculated.

Concept introduction: The final volume of sea water is calculated as,

$\text{Final}\text{volume}=\frac{\text{Initial}\text{molar}\text{concentration}\times \text{Initial}\text{volume}}{\text{Final}\text{molar}\text{concentration}}$

To determine: The volume of water that is added to make the concentration of sea water equal to that of the human cytosol.
