Case summary:
Person X was excited and nervous about her mental health clinical rotation. As she was a new staff, the other nurses were helpful and been cooperative to her to a greater extent. She started her training in developing nurse-patient relationship.
Patient CR, a 17-year-old girl was admitted in the unit for attempting suicide. As she was unable to speak English properly, the nurses asked Person X to speak with her because Person X knows Spanish. While speaking with her, Person X found that she did not like to live with her sister. This is because her sister used to abuse her verbally and keep on reminding her about the sacrifices she had made for her. She kept on reminding her of everything she bought for her so that she could repay her back. Her sister behaved in such a way in order to make the girl stay with her because her mother passed away recently.
After speaking with the girl, Person X found that she did not want to return to her sister’s house.
Unfortunately, this was the problem because she was not considered an adult legally. Therefore, her sister have to be consulted. The girl would be taken to court and be placed in a foster home if she is not willing to return back to her sister. Although this placement is applicable until her 18 years of age. 18 years that is only until end of this month. However, she was not ready for such a radical change.
