Concept introduction:
The force applied per unit area of a surface at right angles is termed as pressure. The pressure is commonly denoted as ‘P’ and P = F / A; P is the pressure of the system; F is the force acting on the system; A is an area of the system. When the gas molecules are in rapid movement, they collide with each other and they collide with the walls of the container. Thus, the gas molecules is termed to be in some pressure values. The common factors that controls pressure of the gas molecule is volume, temperature, and number of moles of gas. Pressure is having the inverse relationship with volume since the volume of gas decreases as the pressure of gas increases. Moreover, pressure of the gas is directly proportional to the number of gas molecules. More the number of gas molecules higher will be the pressure. Similarly increasing the temperature of the gas system will increase the pressure of the gas since it leads the rapid collision of the molecules on the walls of the container.

EBK INTRODUCTORY CHEMISTRY: AN ACTIVE L
- 5.19 A sample of CO2 gas has a pressure of 56.5 mm Hg in a 125-mL flask. The sample is transferred to a new flask, where it has a pressure of 62.3 mm Hg at the same temperature. What is the volume of the new flask?arrow_forwardMany nitrate salts can be decomposed by heating. For example, blue, anhydrous copper(II) nitrate produces the gases nitrogen dioxide and oxygen when heated. In the laboratory, you find that a sample of this salt produced a 0.195-g mixture of gaseous NO2 and O2 with a total pressure of 725 mm Hg at 35 C in a 125-mL flask (and black, solid CuO was left as a residue). What is the average molar mass of the gas mixture? What are the mole fractions of NO2 and O2 in the mixture? What amount of each gas b in the mixture? Do these amounts reflect the relative amounts of NO2 and O2 expected based on the balanced equation? Is it possible that the fact that some NO2 molecules combine to give N2O4 plays a role? Heating copper(II) nitrate produces nitrogen dioxide and oxygen gas and leaves a residue of copper(ll) oxide.arrow_forwardYou are given two flasks of equal volume. Flask A contains H2 at 0 C and 1 atm pressure. Flask B contains CO2 gas at 0 C and 2 atm pressure. Compare these two samples with respect to each of these properties. (a) Average kinetic energy per molecule (b) Average molecular velocity (c) Number of moleculesarrow_forward
