Summary Introduction

Introduction

Given all that you have read in this chapter about nonverbal cues in social perception, think about how you can apply that information to be more effective in your daily interactions. Recall the section in which you learned about the gradual evolution of the facial expression of emotions. While research has shown that the six major emotional expressions- anger, happiness, surprise, fear, disgust, and sadness- are universal across many cultures, we also learned that there are cultural variations in the boundaries placed between these emotions when applied to faces. Also recall everything else we covered in this chapter that relates to the various differences that exist across numerous cultures as well. Bearing all this in mind, consider how all this information could be applicable to a particular area of your daily life.
