Concept explainers
To draw: A graph indicating the glucose concentration in compartments 1 and 2 by assuming that at time C additional glucose was added to compartment 1 such that its concentration instantly increased to 15 mmol/L.
Introduction: Movements of ions and molecules across the cell membrane is regulated by a set of transport mechanisms that are collectively termed as membrane transport mechanisms.
Explanation of Solution
Glucose diffusion between two compartments of equal volume is divided by a barrier that is permeable to glucose. While starting at time A, compartment 1 has glucose concentration of 20mmol/L and there is no glucose concentration in compartment 2, but equilibrium started as time. When at time C additional glucose was added to compartment 1 and the concentration was instantly increased to 15 mmol/L. This graph is shown below:
Pictorial representation: Graph 1 represents the glucose concentration in compartments 1 and 2 when at time C additional glucose could be added to compartment 1 such that its concentration was instantly increased to 15 mmol/L.
Graph.1: The glucose concentration in compartments 1 and 2 when at time C additional glucose could be added to compartment 1
