Describing fundamental components of a telecommunications system.
Explanation of Solution
The fundamental components of a telecommunication system are:
- Sending Unit
- Modem
- Transmission Media
- Receiving unit
Sending Unit: A sending unit can be a person, computer system, a terminal or another device which is responsible with sending the message. The message which is to be sent originates at this sending unit.
Modem: Modem is responsible with performing many tasks which include converting signal into different forms from one type to another. It can convert the analog signal to digital and vice-versa. Most of the time digital signals are generated by sending devices and converted to analog form for transmission through transmission media. This process is repeated in reverse at the receiver end.
Transmission media: Transmission media are used to transmit signal generated by modem from one location to another. There are various types of transmission media in use which differ from each other depending on various factors such as transmission speed, cost and bandwidth. Some of the commonly used transmission media are twisted pair cables, coaxial cables, and fiber-optic cables.
Receiving unit: Receiving unit is similar to sending unit. It can be a person, a computer system, a terminal or another device who receives the message or information sent by the sending unit.
