Chapter 4, Problem 11PS
Summary Introduction
To explain and design: The observations after examining the cells of a patient with a lysosomal storage disease and design a series of tests that could be used to reveal if a patient is suffering from a lysosomal storage disease.
Introduction:
Another term that is used for the lysosomes is the suicidal bag. The lysosomes are a membrane-bound organelle of the endomembrane system, which consists of numerous digestive elements. The lysosomes are responsible for carrying out the digestion of the waste and breaking down of the complex molecules.

You add a chemical to five samples of cells and have another five samples of cells to which you do not add the chemical. You wait 10 minutes and then stain all ten samples of cells and observe if they have entered mitosis or not?
What is the dependent variable?
Group of answer choices
A) If the cells entered mitosis or not
B) The number of samples of the cells
C) The length of time before stainingg
D) If the cells are treated with the chemical or not
You treat some cancer cells with a new therapeutic that you hope will kill them. You run an MTT assay on the results and notice that the sample from the control cells (not treated with drug) turns purple upon addition of the MTT and the sample from the cells treated your drug are clear after adding MTT. As you walk down the hall to run your sample on the spectrophotometer, how are you feeling? (a) frustrated, (b) unsure, (c) excited.
I understand that if the cell are alive, they will have functioning mitochondria, the mitochondria will be producing NADH and NADPH which will allow some enzymes in the cell to convert empty T which is colorless, into a colored form as and die. The colorelss means less dye with present, which means the less empty T was converted, meaning that we had less mitochondrial activity, which means we had less live cells. I think that the answer should be (a) frustrated.
I am not sure if I am right. Glad if the expert advise.

After verifying that the flask of adherent cells was confluent, and contained enough cells to freeze down, the lab trainer left the recruit to go through the freezedown protocol.
