Chapter 3.8, Problem 8P

Explanation of Solution

 Formulation of a Linear Programming (LP) to help Highland’s maximize the profit:

 Let “x1” be the number of TVS to keep in stock and “x2” be the number of radios to keep in stock.

 The objective is to maximize the profit of store is:

 z=((number of TV in inventory)(profit for a TV)+(number of radio in inventory)(profit for a radio))=60x1+20x2

 Therefore, the objective function is,

 Maximize z=60x1+20x2

 Constraint 1:

 At most, $200 square feet of floor space is available.

 ((floor space required for TV)(profit for a TV)+(floor space required for radio)(profit for a radio))20010x1+4x2200

 Constraint 2:

 At most, $3000 capital is available
