Concept introduction: The delivery of oxygen to the cells plummets when the people who live at low altitude ascend too fast to a high altitude. Cellular oxygen deficiency or hypoxia is the result of this case. The people who stay in high altitudes for a long time have adaptations that allow them to function in a low-oxygen environment. The physiological change that occurs in response to high altitude is called acclimatization.
