The gene-guided development program that leads to the production of a leaf.
Introduction:
Leaves are the primary organs that participate in the process of photosynthesis and helps in the overall growth of plants. The shoot apical meristem (SAM) that is present at the periphery of stems is the primary structure where leaf development takes place. SAM consists of pluripotent stem cells, which have the capability to produce different organs of plants. The development of leaf takes place in meristematic tissue, which is a site of gene activity that leads to the leaf development. Leaf development takes place by the interaction of various genes with the target cells.
