Chapter 35, Problem 6AL
Summary Introduction
Ebola virus disease (EVD), also termed as Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF), is a deadly hemorrhagic fever of humans and it is caused by Ebola virus. Common symptoms include abrupt fever, joint pain, sore throat, weakness, muscle aches, and headache. Progression of Ebola symptoms such as hiccups, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, and rash. It is mainly transmitted through direct contact with body fluids like blood and secretions.

"Although the reported number of cases varies, arboviruses cause substantial morbidity in the United States each year. Cases occur sporadically, with
epidemiology varying by virus and geography. Weather, zoonotic host, vector abundance, and human behavior all influence when and where arboviral
outbreaks occur, making it difficult to predict locations and timing of cases and underscoring the importance of surveillance in identifying outbreaks and
informing prevention efforts."
Which of the following means the same as "Cases occur sporadically"?
O Cases are caused by fungal spores.
O Because of vector transmission, there is a steady rate of arboviral cases each year
O Outbreaks occur unpredictably

Considering that CMV infects 50% of the adult population in the United States and 100% of the population in many other countries, why is there so little Cytomegalovirus disease in the world?
On 17 August 2022, the Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) reported a confirmed case of Ebola virus in the Beni district of North Kivu province. As an epidemiologist, describe the steps you would recommend to prevent further spread of the virus in the local area,as well as to neighboring countries.

Any exposure to fleas can lead to plague, but it is most commonly transmitted by fleas from rodents/prairie dogs/squirrels. For the decades it has been known about, Ebola (and many of these other hemorrhagic viruses) have been contained to rural villages. After 2000, they began to spread into urban areas, from which they can launch into epidemics and pandemics. The index (first) case of Ebola in urban areas of Congo (May 2018) was the first sign of an urban Ebola epidemic that raged for more than a year, with about 2000 confirmed cases.
