Introduction: The primary growth of a plant directly arises from the apical meristem cells. In the case of herbaceous plants, the whole plant comprises the primary growth. The nonwoody portions of the woody plants represent the primary growth. Shoots or roots are derived from the meristems, but they still differ in their growth patterns.
