Step 2: If the digit to the right of the mark is less than 5, replace all digits to the right of the mark with zeros. If these zeros are decimal digits, discard them. Step 3: If the digit to the right of the mark is equal to or larger than 5, increase the digit to the left by 1 and replace all digits to the right with zeros. Drop all right end decimal zeros, but keep zero place holders. Calculation: The given expression is, 6.5 ÷ 1.31 . The divisor is 1.31 and the dividend is 6.5. Rewrite the divisor and dividend in standard long-division form as, 1.31 6.5 Shift the decimal points of both the divisor and dividend two digits to the right in order to make the divisor as a whole number. The number 131 goes into 650 exactly 4 times and the remainder will be 126. Attach zero to the divisor and bring it down. The number 131 goes into 1260 exactly 9 times and the remainder will be 81. Attach zero to the divisor and bring it down. The number 131 goes into 810 exactly 6 times and the remainder will be 24. Again attach zero to the divisor and bring it down. The number 131 goes into 240 exactly one time and the remainder will be 109 and so on
