Summary Introduction

Concept introduction: The center of the woody stem is called as the pith. Vascular bundles comprise the xylem and phloem, which make up the transport tissues in the plant. Xylem is responsible for transport of water and minerals across the plant, and phloem is responsible for transport of carbohydrates across the plant. The first formed vascular bundles are the primary xylem and the primary phloem at the time of embryogenesis. The vascular bundles formed during maturation are the secondary xylem, phloem, and vascular cambium. Vascular bundles provide long distance transport and mechanical support for the plant to stand upright.
