It increases the density of soil by packing the soil particles close to each other and by decreasing the air volume. Hence, it decreases space and the amount of water and the air present in the soil.

The activities of soil compaction due to heavy machinery or foot traffic may result in soil degradation, which ultimately results in soil erosion and decreased crop production. The quality and quantity of vegetation are somehow depended upon the concentration of these soil components. A healthy soil for healthy vegetation must contain a good amount of air, water, organic minerals and minerals.
