Chapter 30, Problem 10TYU
Summary Introduction

To describe: How contribution of seeds and other adaptations led to rise of seed plants and made them dominant in plant communities.

Introduction:

Seed plants, also known as spermatophytes, consist of those plants that produce seeds. The presence of seeds and other adaptations has played a pivotal role in helping them to survive in various conditions and making them a dominant form of plant. The major features of the seed plants include seeds and pollen grains. The seeds aid in protecting the embryo in extreme environments, while the pollen grains provide mobility to the sperm. It enables the movement of sperm from one plant to a new plant, thus helping in pollination and formation of a seed. The means of dispersion of pollens can be either by the help of wind or by an animal. Hence, it can travel to longer distances and to various places to help in pollination. Thus, seeds and other adaptations have contributed to the rise of seed plants, and their dominance in plant communities.
