Answer to Problem 45A
The position in which the compression is least is B and the position in which the compression is the most is C.
Explanation of Solution
In case of position A, the weightlifter is holding the weight with arms perpendicular to the weight and the ground. Now, the compression is more as it balances the force of weight. In case of position B, the arms are closer to the weight plates that means the weight is distributed evenly to the arms and not on the entire body. Hence, the compression will be lesser in such a case.
In case of position C, the weightlifter is holding much more weight than the position A and B, because in this case the weight of the body is included as well. To be in equilibrium, the weight of the body as well as the weight of the plates is needed to be balanced by the force of weight. Hence, compression is the most in this case.
Hence, the compression is the least in position B and the compression is the most in position C.
Conclusion:
The position in which the compression is least is B and the position in which the compression is the most is C.
