In the middle of the night you are standing a horizontal distance of 14.0 m from the high fence that surrounds the estate of your rich uncle. The top of the fence is 5.00 m above the ground. You have taped an important message to a rock that you want to throw over the fence. The ground is level, and the width of the fence is small enough to be ignored. You throw the rock from a height of 1.60 m above the ground and at an angle of 56.0° above the horizontal, (a) What minimum initial speed must the rock have as it leaves your hand to clear the top of the fence? (b) For the initial velocity calculated in part (a), what horizontal distance beyond the fence will the rock land on the ground?

- A hiker walks from (x1, y1) = (4.00 km. 3.00 km) to (x2, y2) = (3.00 km, 6.00 km), (a) What distance has the traveled? (b) The hiker desires to return to his starting point. In what direction should he go? (Give the angle with respect to due cast.) (See Sections 3.2 and 3.3.)arrow_forwardOn the roof of a 24 meter high building there is a cannon. The barrel of the cannon is 4.0 meters long and forms the angle ? = 30° up from the horizontal. When the cannon is fired, the cannon ball leaves the muzzle the cannon barrel with the initial speed of 360 km/h regardless of the angle of the barrel. Suppose you find yourself in one area which, with the exception of the building you are standing on, is completely flat. How long does it take for the bullet to hit the ground?arrow_forwardA hunter spots a duck flying a given distance, h, above the ground (in meters) and shoots at it with his shotgun. The buckshot leaves the shotgun at an angle equal to 57.7 degrees from the horizontal with a velocity of 105 m/s. The duck is flying at a speed of 30 m/s in a horizontal direction toward the hunter. If the hunter shot when the duck was 200 meters away from the hunter and hit the duck, how high was the duck flying?arrow_forward
- A firework rocket is 85 m above the ground when it explodes. Immediately after the explosion one piece is moving 51 m/s at 23° to the upward vertical direction. A second piece is moving at 38 m/s at 11° below the horizontal direction. What what horizontal distance from the explosion site does each piece land?arrow_forwardA soccer goal is 2.44 m high. A player kicks the ball at a distance 10 m from the goal at an angle of 25°. The ball hits the crossbar at the top of the goal. What is the initial speed of the soccer ball?arrow_forwardFor a forensics experiment, a student decides to measure the muzzle velocity of the pellets from his BB gun. She points the gun horizontally. On a vertical wall a distance 47.3 m away from the gun, a target is placed. The shots hit the target a vertical distance 0.10 m below the gun's barrel. What is the initial speed of the pellets? - A playground is on the flat roof of a city school, hb = 6.40 m above the street below (see figure). The vertical wall of the building is h = 7.70 m high, to form a 1.3-m-high railing around the playground. A ball has fallen to the street below, and a passerby returns it by launching it at an angle of ? = 53.0° above the horizontal at a point d = 24.0 m from the base of the building wall. The ball takes 2.20 s to reach a point vertically above the wall. The takeoff ramp makes an angle θ = 18.0° above the horizontal, and the landing ramp is identical to the takeoff ramp. The buses are parked side by side, and each bus is 2.74 m wide. The cyclist leaves the ramp with a speed of v = 30.0 m/s. What is the maximum number of buses over which the cyclist can jump?arrow_forwardI can’t figure out the value of A.arrow_forward

She can do this by throwing her ball so that it lands directly on top of the pallino, which is x = 17 m horizontally downcourt from where she throws. If she releases the ball y = 0.90 m above the ground at an angle of 0 = 23° above the horizontal, then how much time will the ball spend airborne before hitting the pallino? Both balls may be treated as point particles in this problem.arrow_forward
