Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: The relation between the thermodynamic and statistical definitions of entropy has to be stated.

Concept introduction: The randomness present in the system is called its entropy.  It is an extensive property.  At equilibrium, the entropy of the system is zero.  It is denoted by S.  The thermodynamic expression for entropy is,

    dS=dqrevT

Where,

  • S is the entropy.
  • qrev is the heat transferred reversibly to the system.
  • T is the temperature.
