The state firefighters’ association has a membership of 15,000. The purpose of the organization is to provide some financial support to the families of deceased member firefighters and to organize a conference each year bringing together firefighters from all over the state. Annually, members are billed dues and calls. “Calls” are additional funds required to take care of payments made to the families of deceased members. The bookkeeping work for the association is handled by the elected treasurer, Bob Smith, although it is widely known that his wife, Laura, does all of the work. Bob runs unopposed each year at the election, since no one wants to take over the tedious and time consuming job of tracking memberships. Bob is paid a stipend of $8000 per year, but his wife spends well over 20 hours per week on the job. The organization, however, is not happy with their performance. A computer system is used to track the billing and receipt of funds. This system was developed in 1984 by a…

- how to solve this in excel solver?arrow_forwardUse excel for this problem A trust officer at the Blacksburg National Bank needs to determine how to invest $150,000 in the following collection of bonds to maximize the annual return. Bond Annual Return Maturity Risk Tax Free A 9.5% Long High Yes B 8.0% Short Low Yes C 9.0% Long Low No D 9.0% Long High Yes E 9.0% Short High No The officer wants to invest at least 40% of the money in short-term issues and no more than 20% in high-risk issues. At least 25% of the funds should go in tax-free investments, and at least 45% of the total annual return should be tax free. Formulate the LP model for this problem. Create the spreadsheet model and use Solver to solve the problem.arrow_forwardThe XYZ Corporation has been engaged in the manufacture of electronic components for automobiles for the last 5 years. The company employs 350 employees and about 30 supervisors and managers. The increase in technology requires that employees be sent to training to cope with the increasing demand for updated new products consistent with the demand of local and foreign customers. The HR manager suggested that 3 of the managers and 8 supervisors be sent to the mother company in Japan for updates in technology on car electronics. The Vice President for Finance and the Operation Manager opposed the recommendation on the basis of cost-cutting and lack of personnel to handle the operations while they were away for 2 months. They suggested that technicians from the mother company be invited instead to handle the training in the Philippines. The cost of training by the mother company would double the cost of training as they are paid higher allowances and salaries that will be…arrow_forward
- Create spreadsheets and use Solver to determine the correct volumes to be produced to minimize cost for the following problem. Your company has two trucks that it wishes to use on a specific contract. One is a new truck the company is making payments on, and one is an old truck that is fully paid for. The new truck’s costs per mile are as follows: 54₵ (fuel/additives), 24₵ (truck payments), 36₵ (driver), 12₵ (repairs), and 1₵ (misc.). The old truck’s costs are 60₵ (fuel/additives), 0₵ (truck payments), 32₵ (rookie driver), 24₵ (repairs), and 1₵ (misc.). The company knows that truck breakdowns lose customers, so it has capped estimated repair costs at $14,000. The total distance involved is 90,000 miles (to be divided between the two trucks).arrow_forwardI need 3 answersarrow_forwardThe new Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Lee Ching Chemical Company, MaxChing, has found that the firm has been dumping its toxic waste into the local riverfor the last four years and falsifying information to officials about the amounts ofalleged cancer-causing materials in the waste. The plant overseer claims there is noevidence that the waste will cause cancer. Besides, within a hundred kilometersdownriver, there are only a few fishing villages. If the company had to treat thesubstance to neutralize its potentially harmful effects and transport it to a legaldumpsite, the operating costs of the company would rise to a level that could renderthe company uncompetitive. When the organization loses its competitive advantage, five thousand local workers can become unemployed and the economy of that towncould collapse. Question: If you were the COO, what would you do? - Please solve the linear equation (LP) with clear steps and explanationarrow_forwardMichael has decided to invest $40,000 in three types of funds. Fund A has projected an annual return of 8 percent, Fund B has projected an annual return of 10 percent, and Fund C has projected an annual return of 9 percent. He has decided to invest no more than 30 percent of the total amount in Fund B and no more than 40 percent of the total amount in Fund C. a. Formulate a linear programming model that can be used to determine the amount of investments Michael should allocate to each type of fund to maximize the total annual return.b. How much should be allocated to each type of fund? What is the total annual return?arrow_forwardDiscuss the similarities and differences between minimization and maximization problems using the graphical solution approach of LP.
