Chapter 29.1, Problem 1CYP
Summary Introduction
To analyze: The description of the endosymbiotic theory
Introduction:
The origin of eukaryotes has been discussed with many theories formulated. The Russian botanist Konstantin Mereschkowski explained the theory and articulated it in the year 1905 and 1910. This theory was later substantiated by Lynn Margulis in 1967. The theory defined how the eukaryotic cells had evolved from prokaryotic cells through the process of symbiosis. Symbiosis is described as the relation where two organisms that are dependent on each other for their survival and they live close to each other.
