An electro chemical machining (ECM) operation is employed too cut a square hole in a copper plate of 18 mm thickness. The dimensions of the hole is 20 mm on each side, however, the electrode dimension shall be slightly less than 20 mm to allow for overcut, and its shape includes a hole in its center to permit the flow of electrolyte and reduce the area of cut. The frontal area of electrode is 180 mm2. The specific removal rate for copper is C = 7.35 x 10-2 mm3/A-s. The applied current is 950 A. At 90 % efficiency, determine the time required to cut a hole of required dimensions.
