Explanation of Solution

Write the expression to calculate mass of nickel (mNi).

 mNi=nNi×MNi                                                                                                      (I)

Here, number of moles of nickel is nNi and molar mass of nickel is MNi.

Write the expression to calculate mass of copper (mCu).

 mCu=nCu×MCu                                                                                                    (II)

Here, number of moles of copper is nCu and molar mass of copper is MCu.

Write the expression to calculate total mass of the quarter (m).

 m=mNi+mCu                                                                                                      (III)

Conclusion:

The molar masses of copper and nickel are 63.55g/mol and 58.69g/mol respectively.

Substitute 0.00740moles for nNi and 58.69g/mol for MNi in Equation (I).

 mNi=0.00740moles×58.69g/mol=0.434g

Substitute 0.0886moles for nCu and 63.55g/mol for MCu in Equation (II).

 mCu=0.0886moles×63.55g/mol=5.63g

Substitute 0.434g for mNi and 5.63g for mCu in Equation (III).

 m=0.434g+5.63g=6.06g

Thus, the total mass of the quarter is 6.06g.
