To determine:

Whetherthe mesophyll of a plant species that has vertically oriented leaves could be divided into spongy and palisade layer.

Introduction:

A leaf comprises stomata for the exchange of CO₂ and O₂ between the surrounding air and inside the leaf. Stomata are the pores that can interrupt the epidermis of leaves. The entire area of stomata consists two epidermal cells: guard cells and mesophyll.

The mesophyll is a ground tissue of a leaf. Its middle layer is located between upper and lower epidermal layers. Mesophyll consist parenchyma cells for photosynthesis. The mesophyll cells have two distinct layers: palisade and spongy.
