Chapter 28.1, Problem 3.3CC
Summary Introduction
The manganese cycling involves the conversion of reduced form of manganous ion (Mn2+), to the oxidized species, manganese dioxide (MnO2). This transformation takes place at the oxygenic and anoxygenic interface in hydrothermal vents, stratified lakes, and bogs. Bacteria that are phylogenetically diverse may use Mn2+ as an electron donor along with oxygen (O2) or nitrate at the terminal electron acceptor.
