The role of stomata in overcoming the challenge posed to plants in their ability to live on land by the evolution of cuticle. Compare and contrast pores found in liverworts with stomata.
Introduction:
The plant organs, such as leaves and young shoots, are covered with the thin layer of a waxy substance called the cuticle. The cuticle is composed of the cutin a polyester mainly formed by C16 and C18 fatty acid monomers, which is hydrophobic in nature. The cuticle does not allow the passage of the water and gases through it.
