Summary Introduction

Introduction: The mechanism of secondary endosymbiosis takes place by the phagocytosis of the red algae by the unicellular eukaryotes to produce the higher organisms. The red algae have specific pigments, which are different from the chlorophyll-containing plastids. Therefore, the plastids are not present in the higher eukaryotes formed by the process of endosymbiosis. The new species have various pigments essential for the metabolic functions of the cell. These species do not have the plastids containing the green pigment chlorophyll.
