Chapter 28, Problem 3SQ
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
Water transport from the roots to the vascular system (xylem) takes place via the apoplastic pathway. The apoplastic pathway is one of the two pathway involved in the water, mineral, and solute transport. After absorption to the root hairs, the water and minerals flow in the upright direction to the xylem via the apoplast. The apoplast is a space outside the plasma membrane of the plant cells through which the molecules can freely diffuse without any hindrance.
