Chapter 28, Problem 28.10P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

In dilute acid, the glycosidic bond of Nucleoside undergoes hydrolysis to give a pentose and a heterocyclic amine base.  The mechanism of the hydrolysis of the Nucleoside has to be given.

Concept Introduction:

The Nucleoside is the component of the Nucleic acids.  It contains a Nitrogen base and Sugar molecule (pentose sugar) which are linked together by N-glycosidic bond.  The nitrogen bases are Adenine, Guanine, Cytosine and Thymine (or) Uracil.  The sugar molecule is D-ribose sugar in RNA and 2-deoxy-D-ribose sugar in DNA molecule.

Nucleoside = Nitrogen base + Sugar molecule
