Introduction:

The uterus contracts even after the delivery of the fetus. Whereas, the placenta cannot contract. An average of 350 ml of blood is lost during delivery. The myometrium contractions flatten the blood vessels, so extensive bleeding is controlled. The amnion, placenta, and other membranes of the fetus must be taken out after birth. This can be done by a mild pull on the umbilical cord. If any of the membranes are left unremoved, it leads to postpartum hemorrhage.
