Simple multicellular organisms Complex multicellular organisms
The simple multicellular organisms are the organisms that have a simple level of multicellularity. The cells are not much differentiated, they are alike. The complex multicellular organisms are the organisms that have highly differentiated and arranged cells and tissues at their level.
Due to the lack of complex arrangement of cells: the cells are in direct contact with the outer surroundings. The most of the cells in the complex multicellular organisms are being enclosed by other cells.
For example: Volvox and sponges. For example: Chrodartes and Reptiles.
Conclusion

The basic difference between the simple multicellular and complex multicellular organisms is the number and differentiation of cells.
