The fluid produced is alkaline in nature, thus it neutralizes the acidic surrounding of the male urethra and female reproductive system, which otherwise could kill or inactivate the sperm. The seminal vesicle also provides fructose for producing ATP (adenosine triphosphate) by the sperm.
