The use of botulism toxin for the treatment of tetanus.
Introduction:
Spastic paralysis refers to increased tendon flexes and tonic spasm caused by the toxin of Clostridium tetani. Flaccid paralysis refers to a decreased muscle tone caused by Clostridium botulinum. The structure of both the toxins is similar and comprises two peptides containing heavy and light chains. These chains are attached by a disulphide bond. The heavy chain has a binding and translocation domain, while the light chain has a catalytic domain.
