Summary Introduction

To review:

The possibility of the spread of botulism from person to person.

Introduction:

The organism Clostridium botulinum is responsible for causing the disease botulism. The endospores produced by the bacteria are heatresistant and are not killed by merely boiling. The endospores require a nutrient-rich anaerobic environment which they generally get in the intestine after entering the person’s body. The endospores germinate into vegetative cells which produce the botulinum toxin.
