In multicellular organisms, cells in different tissues and organs differentiate, or become specialized by making different sets of proteins, even though all cells in the body have the same genome.

Introduction:

The expression of eukaryotic genes is controlled primarily at the level of initiation of the process of transcription. The combined actions of the multiple different transcriptional regulatory proteins accomplish the regulation of the gene expression in the multicellular organisms’ differentiated cell types. In addition, the packaging of the DNA into chromatin and then, its modification by the process of methylation imparts further complexity levels to the control of gene expression.
