Introduction:

The alternative form of the gene is an allele. There are normally two alleles for a gene. The diploid organism has two alleles for a single gene. A single copy of an allele is significant for expression of the phenotype in an individual and that allele said to be dominant. The two sets of alleles are significant for expression of the phenotype in an individual and said to be recessive.
