Summary Introduction

To describe: The effect on blood ${\text{P}}_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}}}$ of a patient who has an airway obstruction.

Introduction: The kidney tubules respond to alkalosis by collecting or conserving hydrogen ions into the tubules and by secreting bicarbonate ions out of the tubules. This response prevents alkalosis because high concentration of hydrogen ions will decrease the pH.
