Chapter 25, Problem 72E
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: The reason why Ni(NH3)4]2+ is paramagnetic, while [Ni(CN)4]2– is diamagnetic is to be explained.

Concept Introduction: The strength of the crystal field can affects the magnetic properties of the complex ions.

Strong field ligands produce large amount of crystal field splitting energy, Δ which is less than the pairing energy, thereby pairing of electrons takes place and hence, the complex ion would be diamagnetic.

Weak field ligands produce small amount of crystal field splitting energy, Δ which is more than the pairing energy, thereby pairing of electrons does not takes place and hence, the complex ion would be paramagnetic.

Could you please solve the first problem in this way and present it similarly but color-coded or step by step so I can understand it better? Thank you!
Could you please solve the first problem in this way and present it similarly but (color-coded) and step by step so I can understand it better? Thank you! I want to see what they are doing
Can you please help mne with this problem. Im a visual person, so can you redraw it, potentislly color code and then as well explain it. I know im given CO2 use that to explain to me, as well as maybe give me a second example just to clarify even more with drawings (visuals) and explanations.
