A large group mostly found in the marine plankton is called dinoflagellates and it belongs to the phylum Dinoflagellata. It is also present in the freshwater habitats. Ornithecercus is a genus of planktonic dinoflagellate and this genus is first discovered by zoologist Samuel Friedrich Nathaniel Ritter Von Stein and German entomologist in 1883.
