Introduction:

Drosophila buzzatii is a fruit fly found in Australia. This fruit fly feeds on decaying fruits of cacti. Two researchers, Timothy Prout and Stuart Barker, calculated heritabilities body size of this fruit fly. They measured heritability in a natural population raised in the wild and another population which was laboratory-reared. It was observed that heritability measured in laboratory-reared population is higher than that of natural Drosophila buzzatii population raised in the wild.
