Introduction: Polyploidy occurs when the cells undergo karyokinesis (a division of nucleus) but fail to undergo cytokinesis (a division of cytoplasm). This results in an increase in the haploid sets of chromosomes in the cells. The polyploidy might give rise to triploid, tetraploid, and hexaploid organisms. This is only present in plants and not in animals.
