To determine:

In what way, acids and bases affect H⁺ concentration of a solution.

Introduction:

H⁺ is nothing but the simplest form of proton and mostly dissolved in water. Excess or less amount of H⁺ can affect the cell activities and its functions. Hence, cells require an optimum pH. Pure water is the main source for H⁺ ions because a number of water molecules are broken down into produce one hydrogen ion (H⁺) and one hydroxide ion (OH⁻).

In a neutral solution, the number of hydrogen ions is equal to the number of hydroxide ions.
