A nurse is explaining a patient on how to follow infection control practices at home. During this discussion, the nurse touches the patient on the shoulder. Explain which zone of touch the nurse should be practicing and what problem this action might cause?
Concept introduction:
Territoriality is the need for gaining, maintaining, and defending one person’s right to have space. It is very important as it provides people with a sense of identity, security, privacy, and control. During the interpersonal interactions, people would usually maintain a varying degree of distances with each other depending on their situation, culture, and relationship nature. In order to provide caregiving, the nurses frequently move into the personal and territory spaces of the patient.
