The reason behind greater hemoglobin affinity of a fetus as compared to the affinity of maternal hemoglobin.
Introduction:
Hemoglobin consists of four associated protein molecules (globulin chains). There are two alpha-globulin chains and two beta-globulin chains in the normal adult hemoglobin (abbreviated Hgb or Hb) molecule. Hemoglobin transports oxygen and carbon to the respective places.
