Concept Introduction:
FOXP2 is a gene present in many vertebrates including humans. FOXP2 gene codes for a protein called forkhead box protein P2. This gene is necessary for the development of communication. Chromosome 7 contains the FOXP2 gene and it is expressed in the lungs, gut, adult brain, and in the fetus. It is mainly responsible for language and speech.
