Chapter 23, Problem 9LTB
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
After implantation, a finger-like projection appears on the trophoblast called chorionic villi which are surrounded by the endometrium (uterine lining) and maternal blood. The chorionic villi and endometrium (uterine tissue) interdigitate and form a structure and functional unite between the fetus and the mother, which is known as the placenta. The placenta is a structure through which the nutrients and waste material are exchanged between the mother and fetal body.
