To Explain:It is frustrating when one bulb burns out on a string of holiday tree lights connected in series.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
In a circuit, where all the bulbs are connected in series, the current in the circuit is same. The voltage across each resistor drops. The current in the circuit is equal to the voltage provided by the power source divided by the equivalent resistance of the circuit.
When a bulb in series connection burns out, it breaks the circuit. This means that current does not flow through other bulbs as well and they do not glow. So, whole string of tree lights gets wasted. Thus, it is frustrating to replace the old string with a new one because of one bulb.
