Explanation of Solution

The first element of the embryo emerging outside the seed is a form known as the radicle that starts to absorb water and nutrients from its surroundings. The radicle must grow to the root of the plant. The hypocotyls are the area of the stem closest to the seed and occur in many plants; it is the first component of the seedling above the surface.
